Sharing Digital Photos Published in Guadalajara Reporter,
Do you have some great photos you want to share with friends and family? Or are you a budding photographer and want to share your photos with a wider
audience? Email or internet publishing is the way to go. To begin, you'll probably want to shrink the photograph by using the photo editing method explained last time in this column: To email a photo to someone, write your email as normal, but before you send the email, attach the photo by clicking on the "Attach" button at the top of your email-writing window, and then selecting the
photograph file that you want to send. If you want a wider audience or have a large number of photos to share, consider posting your photos online to a photo sharing website, a blog, or your own website. If you want to write a story about your photos, rather than merely showing them, you'll want to either create your own website, or write a blog (short for "web
log"), which is simply an online journal or diary. Probably the most popular free blogging website is www.blogger.com. You can choose your own background and font, and all the coding is done for you. You just
write the titles and whatever you want to say. To attach a photo, click on the "Add Image" icon, then select and upload the photo you want. To create your own website, there are three basic steps: (1.) Get a domain name. You can buy your own domain name online at places such as www.godaddy.com, but you can also have your own website using someone else's domain name, such as at (2.) Create (design) your website. If you are using the free website domain at tripod.com, they'll
provide the program and instructions. If you have your own domain name, you'll need to use a program that can design your pages, such as the free program KompoZer (www.kompozer.net). You don't need to know any special
coding language to use this program. (3.) Upload your website pages to the internet. If you are using the free website hosting, you're all set. If you own your own domain name, you'll need to host it
somewhere, such as at To learn more about these three steps, go to www.webdesign.about.com and click on
"How to Build a Website" (fifth line down on left side). One of the joys of photo taking is sharing them. These days, you can share them digitally via email, photo webpage, blog, or your own website.
