Valentine's Day cards by Dave Clingman Published in Guadalajara Reporter, January 30, 2010
Happy Valentine's Day! It might be too early to say that to someone now, but it is a good time to begin thinking about how to say it. A greeting card is a
good way to tell someone you are thinking of them, whether for this Valentine's Day or anytime. Let's consider some alternatives to going to a store to buy a card.
There are several websites that allow you to create a
personalized greeting for free. Others charge a small fee. Alternatively, you can use a computer program to create a card and then print it out to mail it or deliver it in person, or even email it to someone.
The
difference between something that can be printed and something that can be viewed only online is that the online version can be animated, whereas the printed version will be more static. Also, the online versions usually can
include music. Still, there are times when a printed card has advantages, such as when you are going to see the person and want to hand deliver your message.
Following are websites that offer free animated online greeting cards: http://www.egreetings.com http://www.123greetings.com
The big name USA greeting card companies also have online presences, but they charge for
their services: http://hallmark.com 99cents each, free with $10 annual subscription http://www.americangreetings.com free 14 day trial, $30 annual subscription
(All prices contained herein are in U. S. dollars, since the websites are located in USA.)
With the above websites, you can also purchase actual greeting cards and have the company mail them directly to your recipient.
Or you can select and purchase a card and then print it out to give it personally.
There are greeting card creation programs available at http://www.download.com that you can install on your computer, many of which have free
or trial versions. The trial versions usually have some limitations. The great thing about free programs, though, is that you can try them to see if they do what you want before having to pay for the program.
One
program that I have found to be useful and effective costs $30 US online at http://www.greetingcardbuilder.com. A fifteen day trial version is available which has an advertising watermark on the card when printed. With
this program, I can print the card or email it to my recipient.
Whether you want to deliver your greeting in person to watch the person's face, send the card through the postal service, or email them the card or a link to an
online version of the card, use your computer to convey your thoughts. Back to Index of ArticlesRead previous articleRead next article |
